Okay, Really good week this week. Some really great comics this week.

Green Lantern #19:
I’m still getting used to this story line. Hell, I’m still getting used to the DC universe. But this was a really fun comic to read. I just picked it up last issue, but it has me interested, and the artwork is just FANTASTIC. The next issue promises to be pretty freaking awesome as well. This one gets an A.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #41:
I’m honestly not sure how I feel about a blue thing. That’s kind of odd. I also feel like this concluded the storyline a little too quickly. I would personally have liked another issue in the arc to go over more about what’s going on. I honestly just found them defeating Diablo a little too easy. I would have definitely liked more on this. I give it a C+.

The Incredible Hulk #106:
I do not think how incredibly pissed I am at this issue. THERE’S NO HULK!!!! The last year of the Hulk has been freaking amazing with the whole Planet Hulk series, and now he’s supposed to come back and kick Iron Man’s ass like he truly deserves, not to mention Dr. Strange, Reed Richards, and Black Bolt. Then I open this up to She-Hulk? I mean, come on. I’ve got nothing against She-Hulk honestly. But I really didn’t want to see this. This felt like it was all about Marvel capitalizing on the popularity that Planet Hulk has brought the series. The only thing I liked about this comic was the artwork. Because of that, I’m not giving this an F, I’m giving it a D.

Runaways #26:
The Punisher gets taken by a freaking 12 year-old little girl. THAT’S AWESOME!!!! I have to say, this was a really fun issue. The cliffhanger is spectacular, and I can’t wait for next month. I’m so very glad I picked up this series. It might be more, but I don’t really care for the way the Punisher is drawn. I know it’s a silly little thing, but it bothered me for some reason. This was very close to being pick of the week though. This gets a very strongA.

Avengers: The Initiative #2:
Okay, Trauma is a creeeeeepy fucker. That said, this series has me waiting for more. I wish that there was a little more about Cloud 9, and a little less about Hank Pym hating himself for being an abusive ass-hat. The Hank McCoy, Peter Gyrich section is funny as hell. I hate peter Gyrich, I hope trauma eats his brains. The art again was really good. I really enjoyed how the layout fit together and love the way they drew both old and new characters alike. It’s got a little to be desired in the story department, I think that a little of the first issue glamor has run out, but I see a lot of possibilities for an excellent series here and I think that this is just issue is a staging area for that. I liked it. I’m giving it a B+.

And pick of the week goes to…..

Buffy The Vampire Slayer #3:
Again, another fantastic comic coming from Joss Whedon. Great Willow Amy showdown, There’s a mystery kisser, and an appearance of Ethan Rayne. A very surprising ending, and who could ask for anything more? Well. I would love to see some more Giles. But this was an excellent comic. I’m still loving Jeanty’s artwork. I’m honestly just so happy with how Joss is telling this story, and how well it ties in with where I thought these characters would go, while also surprising me and being consistently better than I expect. I give this comic an A+.

Justice Society of America #5:
This was an excellent book. I’m really loving Starman as a character and love the batman battle. I was a little surprised by the whole 31st century league of superheroes that Superman was a part of. But I don’t read Superman and am new to D.C. Comics so I just don’t know if this has been brought up before. Thought it was a bit odd though. Overall, great story, I loved the Art and the writing. I give it an A.

Batman Confidential #5:
This was very nice but a little too short. I know it’s a full comic, but it seems like there was just so much less dialog than the previous issues. The art was in keeping with the rest of the series and was fantastic. I like the portrayal of Lex Luthor a lot. I thought it was a good issue, but could have used more dialog to fill it out more, it felt like there could have been more. I give it a B+.

Fantastic Four #545:
I enjoyed this book. You’ve got the classic fighting with the Silver Surfer, Galactus is eating things, some crazy space thingy is using a super hero from earth I’ve never heard of before to make a super cosmic avenger thing… How could it not be good? Well, it is good. Not fantastic, but very good. The writing is clever and the art is quite enjoyable. I give it a B+.

Wolverine #53:
Honestly, it wasn’t bad. I’ve been stuck in the pain that is Wolverine: Origins of late and the last issue of Wolverine and this one have me intrigued. The writing isn’t as good as it was in Fallen Son: Wolverine, but it’s not horrible. My real problem is that once again, I’m confronted by the Wolverine Paradox - I believe that if Wolverine is involved, then the Marvel universe timeline becomes entirely irrelevant to suit Wolverine’s needs. I hate this. They do a pretty good job at keeping all the books I read together in the progression of the Marvel universe, but Wolverine is always in15 countries at once? How the hell are Black Panther and Storm in Wakanda when they’re certainly in some other galaxy with The Thing and The Human Torch fighting the Silver Surfer and Galactus? HOW? Ugh. Good book, inconsistencies I hate. I give it a B.

Daredevil #96:
Once again, Brubaker does not disappoint. I love this whole deal with Gladiator. I’ve always liked the gentle giant super-villain of Melvin Potter. It’s fun. The art is fantastic. It really complements his style which I love. And I really feel for Milla, it’s gotta suck being in her position. She and Matt just never get a break. He needs to get Danny Rand to get back in the DD suit for a bit and take the woman on a freaking honeymoon. Seriously. I love this book. A+.

And that’s my pick of the week. Daredevil #96. It’s really a tough choice between that and JSA #5, but I just love the dark feeling Brubaker gives Daredevil so much. I really feel like I’m there with the characters when I read this book, and it’s just worth it every time. I love it. It’s the winner.

Was rereading some back-issues (Spider-Man, The Other storyline), and was totally psyched to find out that I have three pages at the end of the book that include me!

It’s an excellent portrayal of me being whiny.

And a great portrayal of me getting grossed out by something icky! This happens when I’m collecting insects more than you might think!

Of course, you’d probably get freaked out too if you got gooed by a spider-man cocoon! So There!

I read a lot of great books this week including:

Avengers: Illuminati #1 was an excellent book. Much better than I expected for sure. I was a bit hesitant after The Initiative, but something about it grabbed my eye and I’m eager to see where they go with this. The art is not my favorite style, but It works well with the writing of the story I think. I’m going to give this book an A.

Wolverine: Fallen Son Was excellent. It was wonderful to see how well this character could be written. Suffering for months in Wolverine: Origins hell, it’s been wonderful to see the best killing machine on the planet and his reactions to the death of Captain America. I give it an A+.

Incredible Hulk #105 I loved this book. I’ve just recently started picking up back issues of the Hulk, hearing good reviews of the Planet Hulk line, and this was just a stunning book. I love the last full two-page piece. it gives me chills. I just can’t wait till World War Hulk shows up. I give this an A.

Buffy: Season 8 #2 This was very good, I think that it could have been better. Some parts of the story progressed a little too rapidly in my opinion, but overall it was a really exciting read. It’s wonderful to have the old gang of Buffy, Giles, Xander and Willow all together again. And I’m curious if the Buffy/Xander love was dream only or if Joss is going to develop romantic ties there. This was a very well done, but it didn’t wow me as much as I think it could have. B+

My Pick of the Week, though goes to:

Immortal Iron Fist #4 This book was incredible. I was already a Brubaker fan from my Daredevil love, and this book just goes above and beyond. The art is phenominal. I love the darkness that really sets the mood for the story. The Orson Randall Iron Fist is just perfect. He’s a teacher, but also a complete badass. There is nothing about this book that wasn’t spectacular. I’ve been reading it over and over again since i bought it. I’m giving it an A++ and Pick of the Week.

Just got done reading this. I liked it a lot. I don’t think the story was as clean as issue #1, there were parts of the story where I think that joss could have smoothed out the transitions a bit better. But this is the first issue where everyone is finally back in the picture. You’ve got Giles and Willow making appearances and Andrew is in there. And the art is quite good. All-in-all I enjoyed it, but I’m hoping that it’s just off because it’s still story setup. we’ll see.

I give it a b/b+

I’ve read all of it. All the tie-ins, and a few things that should have been published as tie-ins but weren’t and here’s the story. This may have not have been executed as well as many people would have liked, but this was something that was going to happen and I think that it was a lot of fun. It opens a lot of possibilities for Marvel to do some really amazing things in the future. If you haven’t been paying attention, go and read some back issues, this stuff is good. And outside of a few series, you’re going to want to read this to have any idea about what’s going on in the near future.
